twenty weeks!

summer

This pregnancy is flying by. FLYING. For the most part, I feel really good. If there’s anything minor to complain about, it’s the return of heartburn, occasional round ligament pain (the other day I sneezed and felt like I pulled every muscle in my hip flexor region!), and a skin allergy to my wedding ring. But more than anything, I’m so grateful to be twenty weeks in and only a few days away from finding out whether Briar will have a brother or a sister! Eeee!

I feel like twenty weeks is when all the good stuff starts to happen, especially stronger baby kicks! It’s almost always a guarantee that I will feel the baby move if I have my laptop pressed against my stomach while I work…it was the same story when I was pregnant with Briar! I look forward to the day that the movement becomes strong enough for John to feel, too. It’s a such a crazy, surreal experience.

As far as cravings go, I can’t get enough of pita chips + hummus, orange juice, and fruit!  There’s nothing in particular that sounds unappealing, which is a nice departure from last time when I would gag at the thought of butternut squash soup (so random). I haven’t been exercising as much as I would like to be, however, yesterday I made it to my first Zumba class in nearly two months and I didn’t die, so there’s that ;)

Caring for a toddler while pregnant definitely has it’s challenges. There are many days when I would love to sleep a little longer or lie on the couch instead of chase an almost-two year old around, but she’s also a great reminder of how much I LOVE being a mom. It’s the hardest job in the world but I truly love it.

We’re currently in the beginning stages of the terrible twos (or as I saw it nicely worded on Instagram: “the tender twos”), so amidst meltdowns, each day is sprinkled with moments where Briar amazes me / cracks me up / makes my heart melt and then the exhaustion and minor fears about adding another one to the mix are abated.

Twenty weeks is technically the halfway mark, but knowing my history with super-late babies, I still have lots of time…ha! And honestly, that is more than fine with me; I want to stretch out every glorious minute of this experience. I’m one of those weird ladies that really loves being pregnant and I definitely missed it after I gave birth to Briar. I’m also aware that this is the easy part. Once the baby arrives, the real work begins!
