Gold Brushed Holiday Cards | Ann-Marie Loves + Pear Tree Greetings

With Christmas fast approaching, I knew I wanted to get holiday cards but I also knew that we needed an updated family photo. As much as I would have LOVED to have had one of my favorite photographers capture us in the finest light, there was simply no more time left to get it done. Enter: the camera self timer.

John was fighting off a bad cold, Briar was desperate to jump out of my arms and roll in the dirt, and I had to change my shirt twice, BUT WE MADE IT HAPPEN. I got a great family photo (plus a few more gems!) and my dream of sending out holiday cards in 2015 was actually made feasible. Small victories, people.

This year I partnered with Pear Tree Greetings and chose a brushed gold style holiday card from Genevieve Gorder’s collection (P.S. I love her). My love affair with a gold is showing no signs of stopping plus I love the simple design.

These cards are so thick! I’m obsessed with sturdy paper goods and these totally fit the bill.

On the back, I took a single photo slot and turned it into two images with a little Photoshop magic. I like to bend the rules, what can I say? ;) I hope you are having a wonderful holiday season and receiving lots of happy mail!

Birthday Weekend In Santa Barbara | Ann-Marie Loves

For my birthday, I only wanted one thing: a trip away with my husband sans baby. As much as I love Briar, I hadn’t spent a night apart from her since she was born so the thought of being baby-free was, well, all too appealing. And guess what? It was wonderful! Actually, it was one of the best birthdays I’ve ever had. Just me, my husband, and one of the prettiest cities in  the world. Briar spent the weekend with my parents and while John and I missed her terribly, it was exactly what we needed to reconnect as a couple.

Some of the highlights include: coffee at The French Press, hot chocolate at Handlebar Coffee Roasters, seafood enchiladas and margaritas at Cava, shopping on State Street, brunch at Scarlett Begonia, and sunsets over the Pacific. If this weekend was any indication of what 29 will be like, then I am READY.

Family Portrait Photography | The Jubrans | Ann-Marie Espinoza Photography

I’m pretty sure I won the jackpot in the in-law lottery.

John comes from an amazing family full of loving, caring, hilarious people who made me feel like a member of their tribe from day one. This is his sister Jamie’s family and I’m so thrilled that John and I not only consider them to be our family but also our really good friends. Needless to say, anytime I can get them in front of my camera to document different phases of their lives, I am more than happy to do it! We took these photos back in August at golden hour and I am so excited to finally be sharing them:

pumpkin patch at underwood farms.

Pumpkin Patch at Underwood Farms | Ann-Marie Espinoza Photography

This past weekend we ventured out to Moorpark and visited the amazing pumpkin patch at Underwood Farms. I had a feeling that Briar would enjoy it a lot more this year at the age of fourteen months than she did last year at two months (obvious statement?), but I had no idea how much more I would enjoy it, too! Since the farm is humongous, there were plenty of things to do and it was a blast seeing it all through Briar’s eyes! She and her cousin Luna were especially fond of grabbing fistfuls of hay, which they passed back and forth to each other (ha!). My favorite part was definitely the tractor ride around the farm at dusk. Not only was the sunset lighting PERFECT, but the sweater-worthy weather and the cool breeze made it feel like our first real taste of fall this season…exactly how I like my pumpkin patch experiences.

Valerie + Joe | Engagement Photos | Ann-Marie Espinoza Photography

Val was the maid of honor in my wedding. She spectacularly spearheaded my bridal shower, my bachelorette party, and very soon after (whoops), my baby shower. She has been my best friend since sixth grade. Basically, I love her. So as soon as I found out that she was engaged to her amazing fiance Joe, I BEGGED her to let me take their engagement photos. Thankfully she agreed, and I had the MOST FUN EVER capturing this special time in their lives. Here are some of my favorite photos from our shoot:

Camera Love | Ann-Marie Loves

This past weekend I got to play with this amazing workhorse of a camera and this fantastic zoom lens and I. WAS. OBSESSED. I took as many photos as I could (mostly of my favorite moving target) and decided that I need this camera in my life permanently.

And speaking of my favorite moving target, she will be one on Saturday. ONE. I don’t know if I should laugh or cry?

Our Pre-Baby Lives | Ann-Marie Loves

The other day I was looking through photos on my hard drive and stumbled upon a forgotten folder I (cheesily) called “Just the Two of Us.” When I was pregnant, I had made a conscious effort to document our lives as they were. John and I both knew our days as a twosome were numbered, so I wanted to capture those leisurely days for us to look back on in the distant future.

Well, that distant future is now. I sent John a few of these images and quickly texted him, “Remember this??”

His response: “Oh, how we were missing something in our lives and we didn’t even know it.”

Touché, husband. Touché.

doing just fine.

As I uploaded a bunch of recent images onto my computer last night, I was overcome with joy. I am so grateful to have these simple moments — the ones that are so fleeting yet so powerful — captured forever.

I often wonder if John and I are doing enough as Briar’s parents. Are we setting a good example? Are we showing her enough love? Are we giving her all the tools she needs to flourish and thrive? And worst of all, are we looking at our phones too much?! I’m constantly evaluating and reevaluating all the ways the two of us can better our parenting skills.

But then I see these images and I know we’re doing just fine. I see the joy and wonder on Briar’s face. I see the unconditional love in my eyes. I see how John would move heaven and earth for the sake of his daughter. These photos reaffirm everything for me. We are doing just fine.

Jamie + Luna | Ann-Marie Espinoza Photography

My mind currently resides in Babyland Central.

If I’m not feeding, changing, bathing, playing with, dressing, rocking, or carrying Briar around, then I am most certainly thinking about any one of those activities. I’ve been warned many times that the baby stage flies, and my goodness, truer words have never been spoken. Briar will be six months (!!) in a week and half and I feel so fortunate to have had her early newborn days (which I can barely remember at this point!) captured forever, thanks to La Rousse Photo.

That’s why I was so thrilled to be able to take these photos of my sister-in-law and my niece. Baby Luna has already changed so much since then, but I can attest that the bond she shares with her mama grows stronger and stronger everyday.

Ann-Marie Espinoza Photography | Photos for The Nutty Nutritionist

I’ve always been reluctant to call myself a “photographer” for a myriad of bogus reasons (“I didn’t major in photography” or “I don’t have this or that lens” or best of all, “I’m not good enough”), but ironically, it’s the one creative medium that makes me incredibly happy, EVERY SINGLE TIME. I love everything about it, from the conceptualizing to the shooting to the editing to the sharing. I’ve been toying with the idea of pursuing photography as my main gig for quite some time, but I haven’t had the confidence to really go for it. That is, until now.

So when my friend + fellow blogger Heather asked me to shoot food photos for her amazing recipe posts, I gladly agreed. Food is a tricky subject to capture; not only do you have to get the lighting and the composition just right, but you have to make it look appetizing…no easy feat! Needless to say, it’s been an exciting creative challenge for the both of us, as Heather works her magic in the kitchen and I work mine near the window with the best natural light.

(I can attest that these recipes are incredible. In fact, I even made Heather’s green chile corn casserole (shown above) for Thanksgiving!)

There’s something about having a baby that has forced me to truly reevaluate everything in my life, from the to the way I drive to the words that I say to the way I can support my little family while still being a stay-at-home-mom. I’ve been in need of a change of pace for quite some time and Briar has been the perfect catalyst for pushing me to make things happen. Plus, I figure, if I can capture babies and food (two tricky subjects) with a moderate level of success, I can capture anything, right? (Ha!) ;)

Stay tuned…
